Have you ever had neighbors that you didn't like? In the Clearing by Jesse Stuart, that's how the main character's family felt about the Hinton's. The story "The Clearing" tells you about what farmers and their families have to do on a daily basis. The main characters family and the Hinton's were enemies in the beginning of the story but, they become good friends towards the end of the book. Have you ever had someone that you disliked a lot but, one day you become good friends?
Sometimes when you don't like somebody it's because you don't really know them. In one case in this show called Shake It Up. There are these two girls that have been friends for a really long time and they tell each other all their secrets, but one of the girls is dyslexic and her friend never knew that she was dyslexic. The main characters family knows nothing about the Hinton's so maybe all they need to do is go and talk to the Hinton's.
There are two lessons in this story. One is don't judge a book on its cover. Like if there's a new kid in school and you know nothing about him you can't just say he is so dumb, because you don't know anything about him. Another lesson is that your enemies can become your friend. Lets say in fourth grade you and your best friend have a big fight and you guys don't want friends anymore. Then in eighth grade you apologize and you guys become friends again.
In addition the story The Clearing by Jesse Stuart was an amazing story because of how the author described the scene. Jesse Stuart used words that made it easy to paint a picture in your head. The Clearing is now one of my favorite stories since I read it.
