"Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes Word Choice and Context Short Response 3/14/12

Authors Note: This is a short response for the word choice and context for this story.

Mother to Son by Langston Hughes was a good poem. There was only one type of figurative language used and that was a metaphor. The purpose the metaphor was used was to show her some that life isn’t easy but that shouldn’t stop you from moving on. There were a lot of tones for this poem. One of them was motivation because she wanted her son to know that no matter what is in your path you should never give up. The mood I got from the story was that the mom had a hard background.
