Papa's Parrot

What I'm talking about? Papa's Parrot is a short story. The story is about a boy living with his father in his candy shop and one day the boy doesn't go to the candy store anymore. That makes the dad lonely so he gets a parrot to replace the empty spot in his heart where his son was.

The moral lesson of the story is to always visit your family and don't forget about them. It is important to keep in touch with your family because one day someone that is really close to you like your grandma might pass away and you would not know because you aren't in touch with your family. Also if you have a relative that you haven't seen in a long time go visit them.

I can make connections from Papa's Parrot to my life because the boy kind of forgets about his dad and gets replaced by something else. For example my dad has been in jail for almost two years and I haven't talked to him since. But instead of replacing me with a Parrot he replaced me with drugs. Another connection is that when my dad replaced me for drugs he did it because he had an empty spot in his heart and thought that drugs would fill the emptiness but, it never will.

Harry feels really bad inside because he forgot about his dad and never stopped in the candy shop and said hi or anything like that. I feel bad for Harry because his own dad replaced him for a Parrot to fill in the empty spot but really he is just pushing Harry further and further away. The dad should call Harry and ask him to lunch so they can catch up.
